Generative propagation and fertilisation of Stipeae species - wild grasses with ornamental potential

The wild grasses are of increasing interest among landscape architects. appropriate plant selection is crucial for the subsequent survival and growth plants in grassy gardens. aim experiment was to assess influence seed age (1–3-year old seeds) on germination three Stipeae species: Eriocoma occidentalis subsp. californica, Stipa pulcherrima Hesperostipa curtiseta. weight percentage showed a decline over period storage. There 31–84% (depending species) loss germinability 3-year seeds comparison 1-year seeds. After germination, were repotted treated with Osmocote (a slow-release fertiliser, N15 + P10 K12). results indicated that fertilisation significantly increased number roots, stems, leaf length, dry weight, chlorophylls proline content. None tested species flowered year sowing but next growing season. Plants fertilised previous formed more better quality inflorescence stems.
